Title: Problems and solutions in the management of open seas fisheries for Atlantic salmon
Author: Derek Mills
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
The Working Group on Fisheries in the European Parliament held a special meeting on Atlantic Salmon in Brussels during July 1983 when a number of salmon experts presented their views on the problems facing the conservation of this valuable species. One of the contributors to that meeting was Dr. D.H. Mills of the University of Edinburgh, who made a submission based on the paper which the Atlantic Salmon Trust now has pleasure in publishing. Dr. Mills' review of the North Atlantic Salmon Fisheries comes shortly before the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation, which has been established under the 1982 Reykjavik Salmon Convention, is due to have its first formal meeting. Since the Organisation's role is to promote the conservation, restoration, enhancement and rational management of salmon stocks in the North Atlantic, Dr. Mills' paper should prove to be a most useful reference document for everyone with an interest in future discussions on the international management of salmon stocks.
