Author: Environment Agency Anglian Region
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
LOIS was a major research programme undertaken by the Natural Environmental Research Council. It looked at the fluxes of water, solutes and sediments from the land through rivers and estuaries to the sea. Much of the work focused on the Humber catchment and the aim of the seminar was to consider the practical applications from LOIS for the Environment Agency's management of the system. This report contains the following information and summaries: Introduction to the NERC Land-Ocean Interaction Study (LOIS); Evolution of the Humber System; Inputs of contaminants from the rivers; Contaminants in the Humber and related studies; Sediment fluxes at the mouth of the Estuary; Modelling morphological change and metal fluxes in estuarine waters; Copper pollution in the Humber; Some LOIS Publications; and Environment Agency's Vision for the Humber. There was also a short contribution on metal speciation by Ed Tipping (CEH Windermere) and a demonstration of the SimCoast Expert System for coastal management and of STEM (Spacio- Temporal Environment Mapper) by Howard Bottrell and Kevin Morris of GeoKronos.
