Title: Local environment agency plan Nidd and Wharfe action plan
Author: Environment Agency North East Region
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
The primary aim of the Environment Agency is to protect and improve the environment and make a contribution towards the delivery of sustainable development through the integrated management of air, land and water. We have specific responsibilities for water resources, pollution prevention and control, flood defence, fisheries, conservation, recreation and navigation across England and Wales. Pollution prevention and control includes integrated pollution control, radioactive substances, waste regulation, contaminated land and water quality functions. The Nidd and Wharfe Action Plan includes a forward vision for the plan area; a policy framework based on identified issues for the management of the environment over a five year period; and costed activity plans to address identified issues. These elements are prepared once the period of consultation has been completed and full consideration has been given to the responses received. Although these plans are non-statutory, their aim is to provide a framework for the integrated management of the local environment through the corporate action of the Agency and other bodies.
