Title: River catchment data report 1996
Author: Environment Agency Southern Region
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
This Data Report will supplement Southern Regions local plans by presenting key statistics for each catchment, which, when combined summarise the region as a whole. The Data Report will be updated at regular intervals. The catchment boundaries are based upon natural
geographical areas. These generally follow surface water catchments. However other hydrological factors may affect this, for example an aquifer. In some areas it is necessary to include chalk blocks where the sub-surface boundary is not coincident with the surface. An example o f this is the Worthing chalk block which has been incorporated in the Arun catchment. The combined data for the Region is presented first. This is followed by the data for the catchments in alphabetical order under the Area headings. Generally, the Regional total represents the sum o f the individual catchments. There are however a few exceptions to this in the Conservation figures. The maps show the catchments major rivers, main towns and significant sub-catchment resource areas. The appendix lists sources of information, clarifies terms and abbreviations and highlights points for consideration when referring to the statistics. The information is by no means comprehensive. The selection has been chosen to provide a broad overview for each catchment area and the Region. Greater detail is provided in the respective Catchment Management Plan Consultation Reports and Final Action Plans.
