Abstract:
This report analyses the Rivers Swale Ure and Ouse. The River Swale begins life as a series of small becks on the Northern Pennines within the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Ure also rises on th e Pennines in the Yorkshire Dales National Park just south of the Swale. The river becomes known as the Ouse at the point where Ouse Gill beck runs in. From there, the Ouse flows south through the City of York to Naburn Weir, below which the river is tidal. This document contains sections on geology features; water quality; integrated pollution control; valuable water supplies; flood defence; flood warning; flentiful fisheries; nature conservation; waste management; enjoying the Swale, Ure and Ouse.
