Abstract:
This Environment Agency leaflet describes the environment situation in the Midlands Region. Eight million people live in the Midlands. It contains some of the most densely populated and ethnically varied areas in the UK. On the other hand, 70 per cent of land in the Midlands is agricultural, from the plains of Worcestershire to the wild uplands of the Peak District. The region also has two major rivers - the Severn (the longest river in Britain) and the Trent.
