Abstract:
This brief Environment Agency summary describes water pollution incidents in England and Wales in 1995. During 1995 the number of pollution incidents reported to the NRA rose slightly to 35,891. 23,463 were later substantiated, a fall of 8% since 1994. Since 1990 the number of Major incidents has fallen dramatically, with significant reductions in agricultural and oil incidents. Both agricultural and oil pollution have been targetted by NRA pollution prevention initiatives in recent years. This leaflet contains sections on: sources; types; examples of pollution incidents: transport and agricultural; prosecution and pollution prevention.
