Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the wide variety of countryside designations now in operation in England and Wales that have conservation (wildlife, landscape or heritage) objectives and their implications for the work of the Agency. This information is presented for managers and other Agency staff who need to have a general awareness of such designations and the implications for their work. The implications for the Agency of these designations, including specific legal obligations, are considered and relevant policy and guidance documents identified. Summary matrices showing how Agency duties apply to each form of designation are also provided. This report is for guidance only, and is not an authoritative statement on the law or Agency policy in respect of such sites.
