Abstract:
This Action Plan is the third of its kind completed in the West Area of the NRA Thames Region. The Cherwell catchment covers an area of 906 km2 with a population of approximately 137 000. Whilst the catchment lies largely within Oxfordshire, it also encroaches into Buckiughamshire to the east and Warwickshire aud Northamptonshire to the north. The major urban areas include Banbury, Bicester, Kidlington aud Oxford. The catchmeut extends southwards from the headwaters of the river at Charwelton in Northamptonshire to its confluencc with the River Thames at New Hiuksey, Oxford. As it drains southwards, tributaries of the Cherwell iuclude the Ashby Brook, the Highfurlong Brook, the HauwellBrook, the Farthiughoe Stream, the Sor Brook, the Charlton Brook, the River Swere and the Deddington Brook. Shortly before the Thames confluence the Bayswater Brook flows into the main River Cherwell.
