Title: Usk catchment management plan : consultation report
Author: National Rivers Authority Welsh Region
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
The Usk catchment is one of extraordinary contrasts: the mountainous landscape of the Brecon Beacons and the lowland plains and estuarine area around Newport; the rural character of much of the River Usk valley and the highly populated and industrialised Afon
Lwyd valley; the man-made channel of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and the fast flowing headwaters of the River Usk as well as the daily changes experienced by an estuary with the second highest tidal range in the world. This consultation document presents a number of issues and options for the future management of the Usk catchment, and is based on a detailed study carried out by the NRA during 1994. A number of proposals are presented for comment and it is intended that, following consultation with you and other river users, a final action plan wilt be presented which will seek to manage conflicts in river use and optimise the overall benefits to all river users within the catchment.
