Title: Pesticide residues in fish taken from the Newlyn River (1992)
Author: J.A. Proctor
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
Since the detection of high aldrin and dieldrin concentrations in fish tissue samples taken from the Newlyn Catchment in 1988 monitoring of pesticide residues in fish flesh has taken place. This report deals only with the results from the sampling undertaken in the Newlyn River during 1992. A sample of 10 eels and brown trout was taken from the Newlyn River on 4 March 1992. Liver and muscle tissues were analysed for aldrin, dieldrin and various HCH and DDT derivatives. Aldrin concentrations in fish tissue were at or near the analytical detection limits indicating little recent aldrin contamination of the watercourse. The mean dieldrin concentration in eel muscle tissue was above the Environmental Health Standard. A decrease of both mean and maximum dieldrin concentrations in fish tissue was found in this survey following the reduction of pesticide residues noted previously.
