Abstract:
Under the 1989 Water Act the National Rivers Authority has a general supervisory role and other statutory duties for flood defence throughout England and Wales. This Authority aims to provide effective defence for people and property against flooding, and also to provide adequate arrangements for flood forecasting and warnings. This two page fact sheet outline the NRA Flood Warning Service, from Yellow where flooding is possible, to Red where serious flooding is likely.
