Abstract:
These Codes of Practice provide a series of standard methods for the handling and interpretation of data within the NRA. Before privatisation, each of the ten Regional Water Authorities had its own responsibilities for collecting and processing water quality data. As a consequence, data handling developed more or less independently within each Authority, leading to a variety of methods being used for the same task. The situation changed with the formation of the NRA, when for the first time there was the opportunity to adopt a common set of procedures for data handling. To provide this uniformity
across the ten NRA regions, the Steering Group on Data Handling was set up in Jan 1991 to establish protocols and to issue these in the form of a series of Codes of Practice.
