Author: Environment Agency
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
This calendar of flood events has been produced by the Flood Warning team of North Wessex Area and aims to highlight the fact that floods can happen at any time of the year. Each month highlights a flood event that has happened in North Wessex. The North Wessex Area has a population of 1,700,000 with almost 50,000 homes and businesses at risk of flooding. Dealing with widespread flooding is a big task and one in which we have many professional partners including Local Authorities, Internal Drainage Boards, Police and the Fire Service, each with our own roles and responsibilities in a major flood event. Working in partnership with each other makes the task of event management possible. The photographs shown in this calendar are: Broadway,Bridgwater 11 January 1974; The high tide at Bridgwater on the morning of 16 February 1957; Caine, Wiltshire - March 1932; Weston-super-Mare - 28 April 2002; Flooded High Street at Midsomer Norton - 30 May 1979; Staverton Bridge - June 1932; Dorchester Street, Bath - July 1968; Welshmill Road, Bristol - August 1965; Perrymead School, Whitchurch, Bristol - 27 September 1974; Athelney Inn, River Tone - noon, October 1960; Bathford - November 2000 and Malmesbury - December 1960.
