Abstract:
The River Neet, from Source to Langford Bridge, in this stretch the River Quality Objective for BOD failed in 1999. The BOD was based on the three years of routine monitoring data from the public register collected between 1994 and 1996. As a result a series of farm visits were made to a total of 23 agricultural premises during the period February 1998 - January 1999, the results of which were reported in the Farm Campaign Report called River 'Neet- Source to Langford Bridge, March 1999). However, in order to progress farm campaign action within the Neet catchment further visits were required to agricultural premises situated downstream of Langford Bridge in order to assess risks of pollution and encourage use of best agricultural practice. A further driver to concentrate the campaign on the three tributaries was to assist in providing additional information to an investigation being conducted into EC Bathing Water Guideline Failures at Bude Summerleaze beach. The objectives of this report to identify any agricultural premises where farming practice may be contributing to a deterioration in river water quality or contributing to high bacti inputs to the river system, ensuring where necessary that advice on appropriate remedial works was given.
