Abstract:
This Environment Agency booklet aim to analyse local Environmental issues in Wolverhamton, Bilston, Tipton, Willenhall, Walsall, Oldbury, West Bromwick, Northfield, Birmingham, Solihull and Lea Marston. The West Midlands Tame LEAP area covers the majority of the county of the West Midlands including Birmingham, Solihull and much of the Black Country. Walsall and Sandwell lie within the area, as do the eastern parts of Wolverhampton and Dudley. The population of the area is pproximately 1.8 million, the vast majority of whom live in the main conurbation. The area has a history of industrial usage. In the 1,800's large quantities of mineral resources in the Black Country enabled the development of heavy industries such as steel, iron, and glasswork, which in turn enabled the establishment of final assemblers, often based in Birmingham and Solihull. This document contain sections on flood warning network enhanced, pollution, catchment surveys, urban Drainage Systems, enhancing wildlife and West Coast main line modernisation.
