This is the 9 Fact File of "Integrated Pollution Control" series. The Environment Agency for England and Wales is one of the most powerful environmental regulators in the world. It provides a comprehensive approach to the protection and management of the environment, emphasising prevention, education and vigorous enforcement wherever necessary. The Agencys creation on the 1st April 1996 was a major step, merging the expertise of the National Rivers Authority, Her Majestys Inspectorate of Pollution, the Waste Regulation Authorities and several smaller units from the Department of the Environment.
