Abstract:
This Report is intended to provide a short but fully referenced account of available information on the environment and ecology of Ullswater. The material includes comparison with other Cumbrian lakes, some of which (Windermere, Bassenthwaite Lake, Haweswater, Coniston Water) have been similarly reviewed in past reports of the Freshwater Biological Association (FBA)/Tnstitute of Freshwater Ecology (IFE). Deductions are made regarding the susceptibility of the lake to change, either from natural or man-made influences. Features of special conservation value are also emphasized.
